CITIZENSHIP IN THE WORLD AND FAMILY LIFE MERIT BADGES
Parents,
The scouts have begun work on the Citizenship in the World merit badge and have covered requirements #1 & 2. Next week they should come prepared to discuss #4 but should also work on #3 to be discussed at the next meeting.
I sent home a letter outlining how work will be done on the Eagle merit badges. Make sure you look at it so that you know how things will work. If your son did not get the letter let me know and I will email it to you. All scouts must do work on the requirements to earn the badge. My meetings are discussions not lectures and each scout must give input. Some boys came to the meeting last night without the worksheet and some said they hadn't downloaded the form yet. The workdsheets can be downloaded from www.meritbadge.org or www.usscouts.org. As I explained to them they can jot down notes on the worksheets but if they do not attend a meeting or are not prepared they will have to write everything out in complete sentences and won't be able to sit in on the discussions. It is not fair to those boys who do the work to have others not be prepared and yet receive the merit badge. In order to keep things moving forward I don't generally repeat discussions unless several boys were not at the meeting. I did this last night because many boys missed last week because of midterms.
The scouts should also start working in the Family Life merit badge as well. Specifically, requirements #3, 4 and 5 because they will take time to complete and can only be done at home.
We will complete work on these badges by the end of the school year.
